he Shinfield Eastern Relief Road (ERR) is a developer led project being delivered by the University of Reading. It is part of new roads and facilities needed to deliver the South of M4 Strategic Development Location. The road is being built by Hochtief UK.

Construction started in January 2015 and completion is scheduled for Summer 2016.

The new road is being built with the following parts:

  • A new overbridge across the M4 motorway connecting the existing Blackboy Roundabout to a new 3 arm signalised junction south of the M4
  • A 2km length of single carriageway road running eastwards from the new signalised junction, crossing Cutbush Lane and joining the existing A327, Arborfield Road at a new roundabout located between the Parrot Farmhouse and Magpie and Parrot Public House
  • A one-way gyratory around the existing Lane End Farmhouse, linking the existing A327 Shinfield Road, at its junction with Cutbush Lane junction with the new 3 arm signalised junction south of the M4
  • Conversion of the old M4 overbridge to provide a bus lane and 3.0m wide footway/cycleway
